🌟 From Spreadsheets to Success - Launch a Career That Goes Beyond the Numbers

I’m Cao Minh. I help accounting students and new grads thrive in this ever-changing industry. Forget just crunching numbers. Today, you need to be a business partner, master data-driven storytelling, and be comfortable with AI and automation that are transforming how we report and deliver advice.

I have been in the higher education and government sectors for 6 years, and I got promoted twice by seeing past the spreadsheets. Think sharper reporting, slick financial models, and breaking down variances and trends so the senior leaders get the full story. Ready to level up and own your accounting career? Let’s go!

Now, I help students:

âś… Craft CVs and cover letters that add value (not just tick boxes)

âś… Prepare for interviews - from internships to graduate programs to early career promotions

âś… Navigate career paths in financial management, management reporting and finance business partnering

âś… Build confidence in explaining financial info to non-finance stakeholders

**I have intentionally kept my coaching packages accessible for students and new grads - as a way to give back and support the next generation of accountants.

📍 Management Accountant → Senior Management Accountant, Ahpra (2024–Present)

At Ahpra, I work with senior stakeholders - including the National Boards of health professions - to turn complex financial data into practical insights that support smarter decisions. From forecasting budgets to analysing trends, I help tell the story behind the numbers in a way that is clear and actionable.

I was promoted in my second year after being recognised for improving our financial reporting and contributing to decisions that directly impact how public health is regulated. I also lead projects to streamline processes and make finance more efficient, user-friendly, and genuinely helpful - because good finance should enable, not overwhelm.

📍 Graduate Accountant → Accountant, University of Tasmania (2020–2024)

I began at UTAS as a Graduate Accountant and was promoted after demonstrating I could manage financial reporting for over 100 research projects worth more than $10 million, while working closely with senior researchers and professors.

One project I am proud of: I collaborated with a Senior Finance Analyst to create an interactive dashboard, making it easy for researchers to track funding and expenses without needing to decode spreadsheets. I also redesigned reserve tracking reports, helping business managers make clearer funding decisions.

Beyond research, I supported financial modelling for new course proposals - bringing data to the table to shape academic decisions.
